Correcting Windows Installation (Repair Install)

If your Windows XP is damaged (corrupted) where you do not have another operating system to boot, You can do the repair installation (Repair Install) who works as the setting (setting) the beginning.

  • Type: COPY X: \ i386 \ NTDETECT.COM C: \
  • Eject the CD ROM and type exit

Directory \ WINDOWS \ SYSTEM32 \ CONFIG damaged or missing

If you get an error with the inscription:

"Windows Could not Start Because the Following is missing or corrupt files
\ WINDOWS \ SYSTEM32 \ CONFIG \ SYSTEM or \ WINDOWS \ SYSTEM32 \ CONFIG \ SOFTWARE "

  • Insert the Windows XP CD and boot from the CD.
  • At R = Repair option appears first, press the R key
  • Press the number that corresponds with the location of the installation of Windows you want to repair.
  • Usually # 1
  • Enter the administrator password if necessary.
  • Type: cd \ windows \ system32 \ config
  • Next depending on which section was corrupted:
  • Compose: ren ren system software software.rusak OR system.rusak
  • Next again also depends on which section was corrupted:
  • Type: copy \ windows \ repair \ system
  • Type: copy \ windows \ repair \ software
  • Eject the CD ROM and type exit

Missing or Corrupt HAL.DLL

If you get an error regarding a missing or corrupt hal.dll file, it is possibleBOOT.INI file has the wrong configuration (misconfigured).
Insert the Windows XP CD and boot from the CD.
  • At R = Repair option appears first, press the R key
  • Press the number that corresponds with the location of the installation of Windows you want to repair.
  • Usually # 1
  • Type bootcfg / list

  • Type bootcfg / rebuild

Improve the configuration of the BOOT.INI file
  • Eject the CD ROM and type exit

Missing or Corrupt NTOSKRNL

If you find an error message that "NTOSKRNL not found" / NTOSKRNL not found, do:
  • Insert the Windows XP CD and boot from the CD.
  • At R = Repair option appears first, press the R key
  • Press the number that corresponds with the location of the installation of Windows you want to repair.
  • Usually # 1
  • Change to the CD ROM drive.
  • Write: CD i386
  • Compose: expand ntkrnlmp.ex_ C:\Windows\System32\ntoskrnl.exe
  • If your Windows XP is installed elsewhere, change according to location.
  • Eject the CD ROM and type exit
